The Tom Green County Sheriff’s Crisis Intervention Unit is accepting volunteer
applications, located at 3005 North Chadbourne Street (Next Door to the
North Branch Library).
The intensive 36-hour training includes Dynamics of Family Violence,
Investigation of Family Violence, Rape Trauma Syndrome, Child Abuse, Grief
Counseling, Crisis Counseling, and other relevant topics.
Volunteers
working at the C.I.U. have a unique opportunity to assist victims at the crime
scene when a request is made by a law enforcement officer.
Volunteers may perform duties
inclusive of crisis counseling, assessment of needs, make community referrals
and provide vital crime victims' rights standards.
Other duties might include:
- Assistance with obtaining
Emergency Protective Orders
- Stand-by assistance for
retrieval of property
- Court accompaniment
- Death notification
